Rotorua Thermal Mud
In Rotorua the inner heat of the earth has found its way to the surface
bringing with it Rotorua’s earth magic – geothermal mud. Rich in
rejuvenating minerals this mud has natural cleansing, antiseptic,
healing and rebalancing properties.
The contact that this mud has with volcanic gases and minerals from the
centre of the earth is the reason that it is particularly rich in
minerals. Ordinary clay and mud contain some minerals but because of its
volcanic origin, Rotorua Mud is far richer in these properties. Major
minerals present in Rotorua Mud include silica, magnesium, calcium,
titanium, iron, sulphur, phosphorus, sodium and potassium. In addition
there are also trace elements such as copper, zinc, selenium, cobalt and
manganese.
Rotorua Mud is excellent for use in regenerative skin care as it has a
very strong affinity for moisture. This mud on drying will generate
heat, increasing the blood circulation and perspiration which help
eliminate toxins and other wastes. It easily absorbs excess oils and
fatty secretions from within the skin’s pores, detoxifies and purifies
and, as the mud dries on the skin, helps promote the regeneration of new
cells. Sulphur, while a very odorous mineral, is very beneficial and
naturally occurring in Rotorua Mud as it acts as an antibacterial agent
assisting in the prevention and elimination of acne.
Where does Wild Ferns Rotorua Mud come from?
The geology of New Zealand includes an extensive belt of thermal
activity traversing the centre of the North Island. It ranges from White
Island, a live volcano at sea in the Bay of Plenty, and then travels
west across Rotorua and the surrounding area, finally diminishing in the
active volcanoes of Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu in the Tongariro National
Park in the centre of the North Island.
Rotorua is located in an extremely active thermal region with active
geysers, boiling mud pools, smoking fumaroles (cracks in the earth’s
surface where highly pressurised water, or steam is released), hot water
springs and former live volcanoes. Rotorua is renowned for the curative
and invigorating properties of the many hot pools and mineral spas. For
many years Rotorua’s grey mud has been used for its healing properties
in the local Queen Elizabeth II hospital (now QE Health). These
properties are retained in the thermal mud used in the preparation of
all Wild Ferns Rotorua Mud products.
The thermal mud used in all our Wild Ferns Rotorua Mud skincare products
is firstly obtained from the hot mud pools in Rotorua. The mud is
sterilised, then refined to remove any foreign matter such as volcanic
ash residue, while ensuring all the mineral and trace elements are left
to benefit this highly therapeutic mud. After this it is then ready for
inclusion in our range of quality products.
